How to Set Up the Bot

Step 1: Connect Discord to Medal

To get started, make sure your Discord account is connected to Medal. To connect it, go to Medal's Settings > Connections.

The Medal app's "Connections" settings, showing how to link a Discord account.

Step 2: Configure MedalBot

Once your Discord account is linked to Medal, go to the Medal Discord Bot tab in Settings.

Medal will automatically find all the servers you own and categorize them as follows:

  • Unconfigured Servers: Servers where you can invite MedalBot or have not yet configured for Clip Sharing.
  • Configured Servers: Servers with MedalBot invited and configured for Clip Sharing.

Step 3: Configure a Server

For this example, we are going to configure the Clippord Never Dies server.

First, click on the server you would like to invite MedalBot to. It will automatically redirect you to Discord, asking which server you would like to invite MedalBot to and which permissions you would like to grant MedalBot.

Please grant MedalBot the following permissions to make sure, that everything works like intended:

The following settings include:

  • Send Messages
  • Send Messages in Threads
  • Embed Links
  • Attach Files

Step 4: Final Configuration

Once MedalBot is connected, click on the server again to see several configuration options.

Once you've set the options and channels to your preferences, click the Save Changes button, and MedalBot will be ready to start sharing!

For the Automatically Share New Clips option, this is limited to the Server Owner's clips only.

How to Share Clips to Discord

To post a clip using the MedalBot, go into your Library on the Desktop app and select a clip you want to share. Before proceeding, make sure that the clip is uploaded to your profile, otherwise you won’t be able to share it.
For more details on how to upload a clip to your profile, please take a look at the article: How to Upload Your Medal Clips on Desktop App

Share your Clips using the Share and Tag section

A video with the "Share and Tag" menu open on the right. The menu allows the user to tag friends or share the clip to Discord servers

Once you've selected a clip, go to the Share and Tag section and click on Discord. Now select the server(s) you want to share your clip to and click on Confirm. The video will now be shared by our MedalBot on the selected server(s).

Currently, you can only send clips to one channel per server at a time!

Share your Clips using the Quick Share feature

This feature is part of a progressive roll out. If you don't have access to this yet, don't worry!

To use the Quick Share feature, please make sure you are on our latest Stable version. If you don't have access to it just yet, don't worry, as we will progressively roll out this feature to all of our users!

Server selection window for MedalBot Quick Share

Once you've selected a clip, click on the Share button and click on Send to Discord. Now a small window will appear, where you can select the server(s) you want to share your clip to and click Send. The video will now be shared by our MedalBot on the selected server(s).
If you have only one available Discord server, the Quick Share window will appear differently, showing the server automatically. Simply clicking on it will immediately share your clip to that server.
