This article explains how to Trim, Split, and Duplicate clips in our Advanced Editor. Here’s how to use these features effectively:

How to Trim Clips in the Advanced Editor

1. Click on the portion of the timeline you want to trim.

2. Once highlighted in white, trim the clip by grabbing the edge of the timeline and move the cursor to where you want the trim.

3. NOTE: Trimming a clip will leave a portion of the timeline blank, you should move the timeline or click the blank area and select the Delete trash can icon to remove the space.

How to Split Clips in the Advanced Editor

1. Select the clip you want to split in your timeline.

2. Drag the scrubber to the point you want to split.

3. Click the Split button that appears on the scrubber to split the clip into two individual clips.

How to Duplicate Clips in the Advanced Editor

1. Select the clip you want to duplicate in your timeline.

2. Right click and select the Duplicate button.

Understanding Medal's Editors

Medal offers multiple editing tools to suit your needs:

  • Quick Trimmer: The primary tool for trimming clips and removing audio. It's also the screen where you review clips, create links, post, or delete them.
  • Full Session Editor: Designed for long recordings. Use it to cut multiple clips from one long video. After creating a clip, you can open it in the Quick Trimmer or the Advanced Editor.
  • Advanced Editor: Ideal for more complex edits. Here, you can trim, split, and duplicate clips, as well as create montages by adding multiple clips to the timeline. Note that duplicating a clip in the Advanced Editor does not duplicate it in your library; it simply creates a copy for more advanced edits.
