If you are experiencing issues with clips that are a black or gray screen when starting your game or when a Medal notification appears on the top left, then please try all the following workarounds!
Workaround List:
Disable UI Hardware Acceleration
UI Hardware acceleration is a feature that uses your GPU to make your desktop app smoother. However, disabling this option for the entire app has fixed the black screen issue as a workaround. To do this:
- First, close any games that you might have running.
- Click on the Settings option in the bottom left corner of Medal.
- Go to the System tab in your Settings.
- Scroll to Advanced Settings, and you'll see UI Hardware Acceleration. Turn this OFF.
Nvidia Control Panel Changes
If disabling UI Hardware acceleration didn't help, please follow the instructions below to make changes to the Nvidia Control Panel.
NOTE: This only applies to Nvidia GPU.
- Open up NVIDIA Control Panel and go to Manage 3D Settings.
- Select Program Settings and find Medal & MedalEncoder in the program list.
- For both of these, we will want to turn ON Triple Buffering, turn OFF Vertical Sync, turn OFF Anti-Aliasing and turn OFF Background Application Max Frame Rate.
- Restart Medal's App.
Disable the Advanced Overlay
If this didn't work for you, or you don't mind having the overlay disabled altogether, please follow the instructions below:
- First, close any games that you might have running.
- Click on the Settings option in the bottom left corner of Medal.
- Go to the Overlay tab in your Settings.
- Find the Advanced Overlay Enabled option and select Exclusive Fullscreen Only.
